IB DP Programme (Grades 11-12)

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)

The IB Diploma Programme (DP) provides an academically challenging and balanced program of education, with final examinations that prepares students for success at university and in life beyond. It has been designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical well-being of students.

The IB DP is recognized and respected by the world’s leading universities, and evidence suggests that higher rates of DP students go on to university and higher education study than non-IB students.

Westlink International School is a candidate school* for the Diploma Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is important for our students.

*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP), or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is a challenging and comprehensive educational program designed for students aged 16 to 19. Recognized worldwide, the IB DP aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge, flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally, and ethically. The program is well-regarded for its rigorous assessment, which includes both internal and external evaluations, ensuring that students are prepared for higher education and beyond.

One of the key features of the diploma programme IB is its holistic approach to education. The IB DP encourages students to think critically and independently, and it promotes intercultural understanding and respect. The curriculum comprises six subject groups and the DP core, which includes the Extended Essay (EE), Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS). These components are designed to provide students with a well-rounded education that extends beyond traditional academic subjects.

The IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) is often considered a stepping stone to prestigious universities around the world. Students who successfully complete the IBDP often find themselves well-prepared for the academic challenges of higher education. Universities recognize the IB DP as a rigorous and comprehensive program that develops well-rounded individuals with strong research and critical thinking skills.

In addition to its academic rigor, the IB Program places a strong emphasis on personal development and international-mindedness. The curriculum is designed to foster an appreciation for diversity and a sense of global citizenship. Through the IB DP, students are encouraged to engage with real-world issues and to develop solutions that can have a positive impact on their communities and the world at large. This focus on global engagement and ethical responsibility is what sets the IB Program apart from other educational frameworks.
