Heat Transfer and Energy Experiments

This week, science is anything but ordinary at Westlink! Our Secondary students are becoming young scientists as they dive into a series of engaging science activities at five demo and practical stations—all focused on exploring the fascinating world of heat transfer and energy.

At Station 1, the Ring and Ball Demo introduces students to the concept of thermal expansion, showing how heat causes materials to change in size. Station 2 features the Conductivity Star, where students discover how heat travels differently through various metals. Over at Station 3, the vibrant Potassium Permanganate Demo brings diffusion and convection to life through mesmerizing visuals.

The journey continues at Station 4 with the Convection Chimneys, helping students understand how heat moves through air in a process known as convection. Finally, Station 5 offers the Light Bulb Radiation Practical, where students observe how different materials like water and sand absorb heat via radiation.

These hands-on experiences not only bring textbook concepts to life but also encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and collaborative learning. Our students are asking questions, testing hypotheses, and discussing real-world applications—just like real scientists do!

At Westlink, we believe that learning is most powerful when students are actively involved in the process. Activities like these turn complex scientific ideas into meaningful, memorable experiences that spark a lifelong interest in science.

Way to go, young scientists! We can’t wait to see where your curiosity takes you next. 🧪✨
