There’s no better way to kick off a week celebrating the joy of reading than with students reading together. At Westlink, our Reading Buddy activity brings students across grade levels together to connect through books, stories, and shared experiences.
As part of our celebration of literacy and language, PYP students were paired up to read aloud, help each other with pronunciation, and even translate stories from their home languages into English. This meaningful interaction not only supports language development but also builds confidence and empathy.
By reading side-by-side, students practiced active listening, built friendships, and explored the power of stories from different cultures. It was heartwarming to see younger and older students learning from each other, exchanging ideas, and growing together—one page at a time.
The Reading Buddy activity reflects Westlink’s commitment to fostering a love of reading, encouraging multilingualism, and creating inclusive learning spaces. Through books, our students gain more than knowledge—they gain connection, compassion, and a shared curiosity for the world around them.
This activity also strengthens communication skills, promotes teamwork, and allows students to celebrate the richness of their diverse backgrounds.
At Westlink, reading is more than a skill—it’s a journey we take together. Way to go, young readers! 📖🌍
